Financial Strategies for Creatives

Many of us feel embarrassed to talk about financial vulnerability but we shouldn’t be! This interactive session will guide individual artists in thinking about practical financial solutions (emergency funds, safety net programs, debt management, taxes, negotiating with lenders) and offer resources to help freelance artists.

Goals:
-Learn financial strategies and resources to support your practice
-Cultivate sustainability and maintain forward momentum in your projects

Host Bio:

Ngoc-Tran Vu (she/her) is a Vietnamese-American interdisciplinary artist and organizer whose socially engaged work draws from her experience as a community organizer, educator, and healer. Tran threads her social practice through photography, painting, sculpture and audio so that her art can resonate and engage audience with intentionality. She received her MA in Arts and Politics at New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts and her BA in Ethnic Studies and Visual Arts at Brown University. Tran works across borders and is based in Boston’s Dorchester community. As a seasoned and trained facilitator in radical hospitality and organizing, I am committed to holding accessible and inclusive spaces. For this proposed session, I plan to cultivate both a creative and innovative digital space through visual/multimedia materials + assets, interactive slides as well as activities that will promote active listening and participation. In addition, I will have space agreements, a tentative agenda shared in advance as well as follow up materials and resources for attendees to have as references post-session. I believe in providing flexible structures to meet participants where they are at and what the moment needs.
