Systems Design for Digital Organizing

Drawing from theoretical elements of Systems Design, Design Thinking, and Game Design, this online studio class teaches participants how to use existing skills and toolsets to increase awareness of how people interact with technology, computers, and machines. In this course, participants will co-create a language that leverages mobile devices and apps for community organizing and local entrepreneurship in New York City. The goal of this interactive workshop is to explore mental models for understanding how we interact with complex environments, learn how technology can help people collaborate, and create prototypes for AI- bots that can help us communicate through systems, games, patterns, and visual vocabularies. Participants will experiment with visual design, animation, video, and sound with the option to share their work on Instagram to gather real insights, social media analytics, and engage in discussion with their communities.

Suggested Donation $5-10, but no one will be turned away for lack of funds.

This course will be led by Roo Shamin, a believer in the power of technology to transform public discourse through enhancing interaction, learning, and creativity.  After years of studying ideal societies and social justice, she's found a passion for Systems Design and community-building strategy.
