Digital Defense for Communities

Workshop: Digital Defense for Our Communities

Through data on us online and offline, governments, companies, and other groups form digital impressions of us that lead to surveillance, harassment, discrimination, and violence in our material lives. We as people of color, disabled, poor, homeless, immigrants, indigenous, sex workers, and/or LGBTQ bodies need to adapt to surveillance tech and algorithmic bias to protect ourselves. We will cover what data is and what it means to us, how groups, governments, and companies gather it, what we want it to say (or not say) about us, and create personal techniques to protect ourselves from people that want to use tech against us.
