Sunny Cheeba's everyday soundtrack and diverse record collection reflect the pulse of her Bronx, New York heritage. Sunny digs the depths of thrift stores, record shops, and crates from local street vendors to build her music collection. Her favorite finds range from Soul, Jazz, Salsa, Disco, Reggae, Hip- Hop and everything in between.
For her, collecting records has become much more than looking for the perfect beat, but a way of preserving our rich culture and history. In the summer of 2015, shortly after acquiring her first turntables, Sunny founded Uptown Vinyl Supreme; a DJ collective that pays homage to the analog roots of music, party and dance culture. Since then U.V.S. has organized and participated in over 70+ parties in the New York Tri-State Area.

With the strong belief that records have the power to uplift, inspire, and heal the people U.V.S. explores progressive ways in which this power can reach audiences all over the world, be it through dance gatherings, individual sessions, live streams, workshops, private events, or cultural institutions.

About the Instructor:

Purveyor of deep, infectious, dance grooves, good vibes and freedom - that’s how Boston Chery describes herself as a DJ. Never afraid to go too deep, her emotive musical selections are her own passionate therapy. Boston Chery grew up in the 90’s in Brooklyn, listening to an eclectic combination of Brandy, Michael Jackson, Missy Elliot, Zouk (kassav, kolè sèrè), and synth-infused 90’s music.

Today, this translates into sets where she puts all the pieces of the music that she loves best (beautiful synth-work, ethereal backdrops, brooding baselines, and an occasional vocal hook) on top of pronounced, foot-shuffling, hip-moving, zouk and reggae beats.

Boston Chery is a very active member of helping up and coming Dj’s and women producers further there craft. Boston Chery is no stranger to the ups and downs of a small-town music scene. Though she loves playing in nightclubs, intimate settings, special events, her love for music goes beyond the spectrum of mixing tunes.

As a producer, self taught pianist , and her own promoter, she has found plenty of ways to express herself musically. Boston Chery has been featured in XXL, Mass Appeal, Saint Heron, Blavity, Pigeons and Planes and more for her work behind the turntables and in the community curating successful events.
